Old Walnut Hill Cemetery (aka Hanon or Horse Shoe Cemetery)
This old pioneer cemetery is located in section 1 of Taylorville township. It was on the farm belonging to the first settler of Christian County; Martub Hanon and his wife, Sally Miller Hanon. Sally died 28 May 1862 according to the 1904 Christian County History. We did not find either of the Hanon's graves. The cemetery is on the Bob-O-Lou cattle farm. It is well fenced. In the late 1960's it was cleaned up and a new fence was put around it. It apparently has not had any upkeep since then. We went in April of 1992, before the weeds and poison ivy had taken over and read all the stones we could find. We probed and found some that were not found in the 1960's when the DAR read it. We did not find some of the stones that were there then. This is the result of the two readings and a few extra additions taken from the old histories and newspapers. (Nelvin and Ida Sloman and
